i have driven the m3 and m coupe extensively, and would tend to agree with this conclusion.
but the m3 and m coupe are more 'fun' to drive because you can bring the cars to their limit more quickly (you may end up in jail or in another world if you were to really bring the m5 to its limit), and, of course, the 3 and coupe are better in the twisties.
conclusion, each m has its own unique characteristics, and, together, represent probably the top-of-the-class in terms of a standard production-car marquee (barring the super exotics which are beyond the reach of most of us plebs).
