"Tire Defect" warning (archive)

Anyone have any suggestions? Got this warning message on my 2000 M5 today. A few weeks ago I had a rather large person in the back seat along with bowling balls in the trunk and bottomed out the right rear tire. The fender well left some grooves in the sidewall of the tire. Could that be the cause of the warning now?
