Look, I don't want to criticize you for whatever choice you make, but I hate for you to go forward naively. First of all, the world economy is so intertwined that I'm not sure where your choices would really affect one country or another. For example, the purchase of your M5 brings taxes to the government, salaries for your sales rep and dealer, and profits that can grow an investment.

Secondly, the reason we buy BMW's are several: cachet, quality, performance, the Ultimate Driving Machine. The reason many of us do not buy American cars is that they lack cachet, quality, performance--The Boring Driving Machine. (Frankly, the ONLY American car I'd buy is a Viper, but even then, I'd be concerned about quality).

The US economy is strong today, despite everything. We are NOT in a recession. We might be in some strange war, but with any luck at all, it will be quick and clean (as much as war can be).

If you don't like your M5 for whatever reason, sell it. But your logic fails, because someone is going to buy it, thereby reducing, by one, the total market for buying an American car.

By the way, the German economy is far less healthy (by every measure of economic health), than the US economy.

All IMHO.
