One more time, the later models 99-2002 are not hot! The 96-97 cars are still noted for rough idle, neutral gear rattle, the later the model the more refined, 2000 up very normal street cars are now unoffically being referred to as "creampuffs" in the viper nation. Re corvettes, I've owned about 20 of them, still have 69 427 coupe. Trust me, close to 100% of viper owners are former vette fanatics who finally got a ride in a viper and were instantly converted. For the money I would much rather have 96-97 gts, with the extended warranty, than a left over 2001 zo6. The viper is much more adaptable for the track, with mods. may be stronger than later vipers and gm has just put more horses in the 2002 z06, thereby making the older car much less desirable. And I bet they do it again in 2003, but it won't help, viper goes to 500hp that year. Don't get me wrong the zo6 is a great car, but whwn you start talking the track, there is no comparison.
I had (and still have) a C4 Corvette that I converted to a barely street-legal, fire-breathing toy for autocrossing and competitive driving after I got the M5. That was over a year ago; I'm delighted with how well the combination works for me.
