Here are the pro's and con's:
1) SMG will shift faster than any manual
2) The M5 does have more torque
3) 0-60, 0-100 is virtually the same (M5 might be a tenth quicker, according to Car and Driver)
4) Do you need a four door or 2 door?
5) Can't beat the M3 for the money.

So basically, if you need 4 doors or love torque, get the M5. Otherwise, the SMG M3 is tough to beat.
