I'm really glad you asked this question, because I have often wondered the same thing. I enjoyed reading all the responses.

I got married at 25, and now at 29, I have a one year old son. Having a wife and child does not feel like a financial black hole yet. In fact, both precluded my luxury car purchases.

I work the financial markets, but I'm far from a millionaire. When I bought my 540 last year, I thought it was such an ill-advised purchase financially. Tried to teach the wife the 6-speed, but she just couldn't get it. So, instead of sending her to driving school, we ordered an automatic X5 3.0 for her a week later. Looking back, I can't believe I dropped over a $100K in cash on two cars. But for us, it has been worth it. We enjoy nice cars, and in some ways it's an escape for us. Granted, we have amassed enough cash to pay for the cars, but we live a simple lifestyle. I like Wonder Bread, and my wife still clips coupons.

It's a cliche, but it's not what you make that matters, it's what you keep. You already have a 330i at 25. I believe you're way ahead of the game. With good spending and savings habits, by the time you're my age, you could have your M5 comfortably.

Next year is my year for the M5!!

And while I've been fortunate enough to make over $200K a year for the past three years, I would never be dissatisfied with a $200K/year income stream if it was consistent. For a KFC lovin' person such as myself, $200K would be adequate!!
