always been something I disliked about a car company touting its superiority with someone elses engine. The trany I can live with. Is this a total GM part or just GM built? Whose design? Just curious.

Not to mention a BMW Motorsports engine. This is supposed to be the ultimate in German/ BMW engineering. My roommate in college worked at the motorsport asembly plant and at the time everything M was hand built. I am not sure if that happens anymore.

Dont get me wrong, I am American and apreciate the talent we have here. I am a firm believer the problem lies in Detroit mentality and managment. Please no Flames.

Thanks,

91 535iM wishing it had a GM M5 trany.

but it's wrong. consumer reports stated that the auto tranny (steptronic) in the 5 series was fantastic, and also made by gm. nothing about engines or anything else. by the way, it's not like american car companies like gm are idiots for crying out loud. they know how to build quality parts now and then.
