Take her to the Ferrari dealership (or any really expensive car place) tell her that its your dream to own a Ferrari (etc). You just LOOOOVE the Ferrari...pick one thats at least $200k. Tell her that you already figured out what it would cost..either buying it or (leasing, financing) it. "Really dear, I can get a second job..push back retiring another 10 year, Bobbie doesnt really need to go to College does he?" Now, heres the clincher...take a RED Ferrari on a test drive..she will hate it..most woman do. If possible drive by a place where there will be young woman...she will notice the other woman looking at the car (and you)..trust me, that will do it. Then take her to the BMW dealership where there just happens to be a M5. Oh WOW, says you...I would really-really LOOOOOVE this car...at that point she will be thrilled with the idea of you getting a 4 seater car that is more than half the price of the Ferrari. Have her drive it, she will see that its an everyday capable car...she will love it as well. Plan on picking up the car in SC and scheduling a romantic drive/ tour of the area. It is a cool area of the country. This will close the deal. Then move to step 2 and buy car or order what you want.

I've wanted an M5 for a long time and it seems that the pricing difference between my car (540/6) and the M5 has come in quite a bit lately. There are lots of new ones around and some really good used ones as well. The question is how can I convince my wife that upgrading is not a totally stupid thing to do...I'm having a tough time...

To her the cars look identical (I even have the M5 wheels on mine) and the price difference is still pretty large..

Thanks for your opinions...Our relationship is such that I have no interest in doing something that she will have a major problem with.

Richard Cohen
