LAPTIMES: Hockenheim and the Ring!!!! (archive)

Horst von Saurma, who works for German car magazine Auto Motor und Sport and was at one time a professional racer and test driver, has driven nearly every production car at Hockenheim and the Nurburgring. He holds 52 different lap records in various classes at the Ring for both production cars and tuner cars.

Here are the lap times of the RS4 and the M5 and a few others:

Hockenheim: RS4 (w/ Sport Package) 1:17.5
E39 M5 1:17.6
F355 1:16.9
F355 Challenge 1:14:4**

Nurburgring: RS4 (standard) 8:10.43
E39 M5 8:20.02
F355 8:18.04
F355 Challenge 8:06:87**
Porsche GT2 7:46.00*

* Production car record
** Not considered a production car (race preped)

Keep in mind these are all figures derived from the same driver, though conditions could have been different (all these lap records were in dry wheather but temps varied)

Hey a friend of mine was saying that the Audi RS4 will kill an M5 in acceleration, top speed, and handling around the track.

He asked this same question at www.rs4.org and they were saying that the RS4 is soo much better.

Anyways, I don't buy it.

What do you guys think?
