The point is that people buy the M5 because they are value-seekers in the sense that they wish to have the perfect combination of style, luxury, performance, mechanical integrity, engineering exellence, etc.
Of course, the Audi RS4 presents tremendous value as well, but in a way quite different than the M5. The two cars are really not comparable on a so-called 'apples-to-apples' basis, except in the most crude of sense, straight-line speed.
Lastly, it is not that one seeks to be a 'snob', but one finds the courage to rise to the challenge when Mr. RS4 makes highly inflammatory statements concerning his/her Audi. Yes the RS4 is fast, but it is not a BMW-M5, or even a BMW-M3 for that matter. Yes, the bloke has a reasonable basis to be proud of his/her Audi, but please flex your muscles in your own mirror, because if you choose to come here, to the M5 board, you will certainly find that you are but a shining image of an ugly duckling, fast, but still ugly.
Cheers.
