In Reply to: Would anyone switch back to a 540/6 after M5...? posted by Jeff S on December 21, 2001 at 00:25:18:

There is much talk on the e39 board about 540 owners that covet the M5. I suspect that many on this board are prior 540/6 owners..it is your opinion that I solict.

As many consider the 540/6 an M5 Lite, I wonder if any of you prior 540 owners would consider going back to the "Lite" version after owning an M5. Other than price what might motivate you to do so?

Jeff

For one thing, plus the lower compression on the 4.4 makes it ideal for supercharging. For about $10,000 less my car will have better handling, same wheels and 420hp. If there trully were no room for improving the M5, how come so many of you are upgrading all the time? If I'm going to go out and upgrade engine, suspension, wheels, etc, why pay BMW all the extra dough for the M5? Economically, it makes no sense.
