A well dressed young man in your town will probably be assuemd to be gay by your typical homophobe. Your best bet is to ignore them when possible and attempt to defuse the situation, not enflame it. Is it possible to get a license to carry a loaded firearm legally there ?
In any case, deadly force should only be used against an equally serious threat. Don't even bring a weapon into view unless you intend to use it, or you may be forced to use it when your opponent feels more threatened and reacts (legally and justifiably). Of course, as the owner of a firearm, I'm sure you already knew that, right ?

Just my opinion, I wasn't there so I could be wrong.
