It sounds like the the E60 M5 will be worth the wait.

I still remember the first 1995 M3, which I purchased. It had a few little bugs and lacked some of the optons and refinements that its later model siblings had.

Who here would like to speculate on how long it be after the first E60 rolls out, that all bugs will be worked out?

My guess is 2 years, So that puts me into an M5 by the year 2008! I think I will wait until the first "NEW" M5's are made then buy a used E39 for about the same price as a slightly used 540i. Conjecture??
