what would it take to make a 540ia like a m5 performance wise?

Engine, transmission, suspension, brakes, tires/wheels, steering, differential. Mods too numerous to mention which is why the previous post suggested the easiest way. Seriously, I think it depends on what you are trying to improve. Some people have attempted it with Dinan and other aftermarket stuff. They indicate they have improved the 540 in some ways but there is no way to transform it into an M5. I don't think many aftermarket R&D (Dinan included) are on a par with BMW M R&D. Maybe Hartge could do something but be prepared to pay a hefty price.
