Question about M5 illuminated shifter (archive)

I have a 98 M3 with the illuminated shifter so I wanted to "upgrade" to the '00 M5 one with metal/leather combination. The parts guy told me it's NLA (no longer available) from BMW because of some peeling problems they had. Did he tell me the truth?

Is there currently any replacement for this with a leather/metal or leather/carbon fiber combination? I'm trying to keep the "illuminated" feature.
