In Reply to: how to tell diff between OEM M5 rims and replicas? posted by m5 rims on February 17, 2002 at 18:30:03:
might look for is the small rectangular indentation where the ///M logo goes. I understand that replicas don't have it. Be careful, because the ///M logos can be purchased through BMW as replacements (since they have been known to fall off now and then). But the replicas don't have an indentation where they are inset. Ordinarily I'd say look at the inside of the rim for the BMW part-no. All my other BMW wheels (e.g. from M3 and 540i) had the part-no clearly stamped with raised letters. However, I notice that on the M5 rims, there are some characters stamped but they are illegible (to me anyway). Wherever you buy, as for something in writing that they are original BMW wheels and if not that you are entitled to a full refund. Maybe that will prevent someone from trying to put one over on you.
