Just ordered an M5 Lemans Blue/Caramel. I ordered the upgraded sound system. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if it is worth the extra $$$. I have a 91M5 now and pretty much enjoy everything about it. Sound is pretty good to.. Can't really find any specs on the upgraded sound option. I know the M3 is a Harmon Kardon unit. From what I can tell the only differance is the bigger woofers...is it worth it??

You'll get many opinions. The stock M5 sound system (DSP) is the same as the upgraded 5-series sound. I have it and it doesn't sound so bad. But I'm not an audiophile nut who needs the best sound. It seems adequate for me. Lacking somewhat in base at "normal - flat" settings but it has an equalizer that can be tweaked to give it more base, as well as add or subtract to other freq's. If you have the extra $$ - sure, why not. I bought my car CPO and this was not a requirement, so it didn't bother me much. I have heard some others are disappointed also with the M-audio sound and have upgraded it also. If you want better base and absolutely can't live with the standard system and absolutely do not want to upgrade the sound later - go with the M-audio. Go listen to both and decide if you can. See if anyone on the board is in your vicinity. I'm sure they'll let you listen.

Rgds,
Norm
