My very first body shop was SEA BREEZE COLLISION. I was referred by Sterling BMW. They had to paint my ///MZ3 and i was very much dissapointed with their work. They painted the car way too light and my car was lietrally 2 tone like my red and black seats. i had to go back about 3 times to fix this and that, because they had fish eyes, dust and paint drips all over. Eventually i gave up and sold off my car.
My second was SPECTRUM COLLLISION in Irvine and was told by many they were the best. I was sold because they were BMW certified etc..
I recently had my car painted by them and have had the WORST experience with them for the following reasons:
- Paint was much darker than rest of car (Literally 2 tone again!)
- Paint texture was way too grainy
- Fish eyes all over
- Dust here and there
- Chipped off my painted reflectors and washer cover with screw driver when taking off
- Compeletly broke the clips on side moldings
I then talked to the people about it there, and the manager there point black told me that the car will "lighten up" and that the textured surface under the clear will go away in 90 days! I took his word for it and found out later on that he was feeding me a bunch of B.S when i called 5 body shops and told me paint will never change. I also was unhapy with the dust particles under the clear and their answer was "I cannot gurantee that it will not happen if i paint it again." I told them to repaint it and was very nervous about the quality of their work after the last statement they made. I paid and got my car out of there. Strangely enough i also spoke with 2 other board memebers who have also complained about the quality of their work in the last month. I then gave up on the prospects that paint will ever match factory, and serached for other body shops for my last resort.
I went to long beach BMW and saw their work and honestly was not very impressed with their work either. Paint did not match ver well but better than spectrum i think.
I finally went to Creivier BMW and asked who they recommended. They told me HIGH TECH. I Then went over there and started looking at the cars that they have painted. I saw 2 cars. A black 740 that was painted on the side doors and panels, and i swear that paint job was FLAWLESS! No dust, No fish eyes, No orange peel. The paint was literally better than factory panels, because the factory panels had so much more orange peel. I then saw a brand new 330i that they had painted that was mettalic silver, and it was immaculate. I was totallly sold! The mettalic flake was identical in every way to the fectory paint. I immediatley brought my car there, and the Manager Scott really took care of me. I think he makes this place what it is. Few days after i went to pick up my car, i was again amazed with the quality of paint job. Scott was very picky about how the car looked before it got to my hands. He possesed an awesome eyes for detail. He would not let me take the car until in his eyes the car was perfect and flawless. He said if you see anything wrong with it I will repaint it no questions asked, i just want to make you comeplety happy. Wow! He made no excuses at all period. I have also shown his body work to several people, and nobody could tell that my car was repainted. I mean i looked at my car under flourescent light and sunlight, and the paint is flawless end of story! Their prices are also very reasonable, and they use the best paint and materials. I am their customer for life! If you ever need bodywork done I GUARANTEE you will not find anyone better than Hi Tech in Santa Ana. Hope this helps. If anyone would like to see the quality of their work i will show you my car anyday. I hope this helps filter out some of the potential probelms people will have with bad body shops in s.cali. BTW the best judge of a truly good body shop is their previous work. Don't buy into the other marketing stuff about being certified and so on. It means SH*T!!! Look at teh cars on their lot that they painted, and see for yourself!
