In other countries, e39s come with a dial that allow you to set the aim level of the headlights. That is probably part of the module that goes there. Makes sense..

Link below points to earlier post showing lens I was trying to identify in the blank knockout to left of foglight switch. Some have speculated it is K40 radar or some security system. This image shows inside. The red lens looks like some LED/light epoxied to the blank knockout with two wires. They are cut at the LED but connect to this "device". It's about the size of a US quarter, about 1/8" thick and is held in there with double-sticky tape. Interesting thing is that I don't see any other wires connected to it! There is a small round depression about 1/4" in dia in the center. It looks like what could be a light sensitive detector but I don't think it is, since it's always dark in there. Anyone have a clue what this is? Maybe the guy who owned it before me works for the CIA and it is some sort of bug? :-) I'll be taking it to the dealer so they can take a guess.

Rgds,
Norm

Why would it have the "LED" and why would it be in a US-spec car?

Norm
