Interminent problem with DSP (archive)

I wondering if anybody has experienced the following problem and knows of a solution. We recently bought a new 2002 M5, 10/01 build. It has M-audio. There will be times when we start up the car and the DSP is turned off. This is surprising because when the car was previously shut down the DSP was on. When we go into the DSP submenu, the upper right corner of the screen indicates that the DSP is off and none of the options are highlighted except the On/Off option. When we attempt to turn the DSP on by pushing in the lower left knob, the DSP will not turn on. The system remains this way until we shut off the car. Upon restarting the car the DSP is on, and is set to the option that was selected earlier. This has happened five or six times since we took possession of the car (three weeks ago). On time the problem was different; the entire audio system was silent, though we could toggle between radio, tape, and CD. Any insights?
