i've owned both, and there is a discernable difference in ride quality (and handling). the m5 is more taut, transmits more of bumps and other road imperfections than the 540. it is also quite a bit sharper in its responses. depends on what you like, my wife prefers the 540 ride, i prefer the m5 ride.
