I was driving home from dinner tonight Through route 138 in Jamestown RI tonight when I saw a new '02 M3 wrecked from an out of control spin on the highway that must have happened just minutes prior to my getting there. Just a single car accident that the driver must have misjudged the sharpness of the curve in the highway, hit the median grass and overcompensated so that it sped back across the highway and hit a highway sign (unlucky, seeing that the highway exit sign was just placed there six days ago!). Troopers just arrived at the scene and was assisting so I decided to keep going. The speed limit is 45 on that stretch of highway (138 between the Newport and Jamestown bridges heading East). This stretch is the kind of road that just begs you to speed though, as coming off the bridge is a natural accelerator to make you go fast and the road is new so it's nice and smooth, like a racetrack. Th corner is misleading for people that do not know the area as a divided four lane highway usually does not have such a sharp curve. This spot is one that I NEVER speed on as I drive it to and from work each day and is the most consistently placed speed trap by RI State Troopers I know. (even though the long stretch of road past the bridge going the opposite direction is where I have gone the fastest on a highway-> do as I say not as I do). I hope the driver walked away OK and want everyone to remember that these high performance cars need respect and should never be driven on a stretch of highway you don't know very well, especially at night. Not even Superman X-ray vision can compensate for headlight field of vision at 140mph. This is why rally cars have so many lights in front of them and also on the roof of the cars. The roof lights eliminate the blind spot that forms on hills at speed that impares judgement of the road.
