It's my understanding that it takes 3 years with a new production model before it is released as an M car...or so it has been pounded in my head by a knowledgeable BMW sales rep.
So I would assume if there IS a 2003 M5, that i would be the E39 body style. This would also mean that it wouldn't have the V10 that rumours have been floating around about.

I'm not an expert, I'm just relaying the information that has been passed onto me.

Hopefully they will have the all of the design issues worked out by the time they release the new M5 so I'll be inclined to buy one.
