I believe you but that seems dumb!! no legal issue, no warranty issue (like euro-rotors), no production issue (they do it already of course), the cars are low enough volume you would think they could handle it...I'll keep trying!!!

I asked about walnut with the "sport" interior, too. I was told it's not possible -- has anyone else gotten this to happen?

Regarding a full 'leather' dash with Sport interior for the US. I do not suspect my dealer is working on this as I am not ordering until the end of M5 production, so I do look forward to what you find out !

no problem - my dealer sales guy is supposed to ask the rep today. fyi - here's my wish list he's asking about:

- leather dash w/sport interior
- Pilot Sport tires (liked them on my '99 M3)
- euro-spec rotors (probably fat chance)
- Dinan single-piece flywheel (even fatter chance but I wanted to put that in the BMW M suggestion box)
- 20" M5 stock rims (not even in parts catalog yet so I don't know if they even really make them)
- Burl walnut (not "standard" with sport interior but seems easy to me)

my email is dbrown@stellcom.com if I forget to post the outcome and you want to bug me...I also want mine made in the last month of production - last weekend the dealor told me it was supposed to be Dec. '02 but may get extended, partly 'cause the V10 won't be ready to ship anytime soon and they need that for E60 M5s...and sounds like the E60 is delayed a year so they will have all of MY2003 to produce E39 5ers. My biggest fear is that, no, the E60 will start production for MY2003 - then the E39 M5 will not be produced after Aug. 2002 - then I'd have to scramble...cause even if I actually grew to like the E60, I don't want to wait another two years or whatever for an M5!!!
