Dark Roads Ahead for BMW (archive)

BMW has had some of it's best years with much of its success attributed to the Z, 3, 5, and the previous 7 series. If the new 7 series is any indication on where BMW is heading, there may be some dark roads ahead for BMW.

The E65 7 series is a contradiction to BMW's philosophy of being a "drivers" car. The idrive will be a fad just like the talking Chrysler K cars were (BEEP: “Your lights are on"). No matter what angle I look at the rear, it's still ugly. I've seen it in person and it looks even worse.

The latest iteration of the E39 5 series is absolutely a masterpiece especially the M5 - one of the greatest sedans ever built. A few years ago, I thought to myself that there was no way that they could improve such a beauty. But, the latest models have the demon eyes and the led headlights. Based on the latest spy photos of the new 5'er, I feel the 2002 E39 model will be a collectible.

BMW may be hard headed and may think consumers will buy Bangle's ugly designs, but the customer has the ultimate power - their wallets.
