Curious. The factory clutch on the 850CSi, in which the engine produces more torque than the V8 M5 engine, is trouble-free. But then it's 280mm in diameter versus only 240mm for the M5 clutch. I'd say the V8 M5 got "compromised" when it comes to the clutch. Bottom line is a clutch should wear out after only 10K or 15K miles, M5 or not. They just under-engineered the E39 M5 to save money and hold the cost down. There's a reason that a '850CSi cost over $100K in '95 dollars.


provide the everyday driveability of the M5 clutch, and handle the massive amounts of torque produced by the engine while lasting 50K miles under "spirited" driving conditions. Please post any alternatives you may find.
