Winter is over in the Northeast and it was time for me to get a new company car, so the company bought my 2002 (given it's price, I contribute to the depreciation/operating costs). My first trip was from upstate NY to Richmond, VA and back in two days. About an 1100 mile round trip.

I had a few concerns, having previously put only 1500 "short trip" miles on the car: how would it ride compared to my previous car, an Audi A8, given the shorter wheelbase, performance suspension, and low profile tires. Also, fuel milage was an issue, having previously read a lot about what poor performance I would experience.

Anyway, I came home less fatigued and much more satisfied than I had expected. The ride was great...stiff, but not harsh. The sport seats were great and I experienced none of the lower back stiffness I usually felt with previous 8 hour trips. Performance (passing, high speed cruising) was fabulous. I was most surprised by getting over 22.5 mpg for the entire trip!

No one seemed to notice the car, which is fine with me. (I sold a 2000 911 for a lot of reasons, one of which the attention the car received.) However, towards the end of the trip, back in NY, a Boxter was overtaking me. The driver slowed, had a look, and gave me a "thumbs up" as he passed.

So...a great ride and still no regrets about this fine car.

Regards,

Doug
