Confusing Service Bulletin on M5 oil (archive)

In June of 2000, BMW released a sercice bulletin saying that the M5's built after 3/00 should take 5W-30 oil. In October 2001, a new bulleting came out (replacing the June 200 bulletin) saying the E39 M5/S62 produced after 3/00 should take either 5W-30 or 10W 60. I'm totally confused. Which oil should I use in my 2001 M5 and what are the pros and cons of each oil. My dealer recommends the 10W 60 -- says it is better oil.
