Bottom line is, unless you live in Canada or way up in the snow belt of the US, use the 10W-60 oil. It is a heavy duty racing synthetic that will do no harm to your car. My 2/00 build requires 10W-60 so if BMW is waffling back and forth between 5W-30 and 10W-60, default to the heavier 10W-60 oil.
