In Reply to: Seems real enough if you've read the e46 board. nt posted by Philip on April 30, 2002 at 00:04:17:

The E46 board goes in waves and people love to jump on the bandwagon. Before the engines it was the 'clunk' in the rear end. There was even a poll over the weekend as to what the next big topic would be - like why they just added a strut brace. Many of the people who post of 'their' engine troubles don't even have a BMW, much less an M3. They just like to stir things up. My wife has a 2002 M3 convertible and it has been bullet proof. I have owned 5 BMW's in the last three years and have a very good relationship with my dealer so they shoot straight with me. They told me the only blown engines that have had come in have been from missed downshifts (i.e., 2nd instead of 4th) and they have had the same issue with M5's. The M's are more prone to this because they are driven harder and that is the only reason.
