Bad to go with Borbet 17x8 on 96 M3? (archive)

I would like to goto a wheel/tire setup that would allow rotation on a 1996 M3/2. What should I know before going ahead with this type of setup? Would 17x8 be adequate for rearwheel traction, and would it clear the suspension in the front? Thanks for your help.
