97 M3: AVS Sport vs. S-02 (archive)

I've talked to Aaron about this a couple times on the phone (he's probably wondering if I'll ever BUY anything....don't worry A ;)

Anyway the conundrum is, I need to get some new tires on this car quickly. I would like to do some driving events this summer, an autox school, maybe a driving school, maybe an actual autox. But the primary use of the car will be daily driving and several road trips. With that in mind, is it really worth the price premium for the S-02's over the AVS Sports?? I'm inclined to put the extra $180 or so toward a CD player.

Any thoughts on tire choice for a novice autox/driving school attendee who still needs to drive to work every day on crappy Chicago roads? Thanks for any opinions.
