I have the stock 225/55-16 setup on my 540i (E39). I thinking of a plus 2. What is the widest tire I can put on the back? I've been told that 265/35-18 is the right size.

If you do the calculation on wheel and tire diameter, I come up with 275/35-18. I've heard mention of that the fenders can be rolled to make this tire fit. Is this an expensive process?

Also, I want to put on a set of H&R or Eibach springs. Do I need to do new shocks at the same time? Notice the word "do" not "should". In other words, would putting the springs on without new shocks had a negative impact on performance?

Thanks
