18" tire question (archive)

I have a hypothetical question.

The e46 is recommended to have 225/40 18 Tires. However, I'd like to have a better riding car over bumps and all, so I was thinking of putting a 225/45 18 Tire on.

What are my possible adverse effects? I know the speedometer reading will be screwed up a bit ( i used an online program and it said id be screwed up by 4%).

However, if this is the only bad effect, I might be wiling to live with this tradeoff for a nicer riding car.

I'd like your opinions if you dont mind on this.... How much of a loss of ride quality will there be if i stick with the the factory tire numbers?

Ive ridden in the 225/45 17" car and that was just fine, id like to keep that ride quality but with the 18" wheels, thats why ive been thinking of doing this crazy 225/45 18" deal
