Help needed on tire/wheel upgrade for E39 540iA (archive)

1. I want to upgraded my '99 540iA from 16" to 18" wheels with 235/40/18F and 275/35/18R. Or should I get 245/45/18F and 275/40/18R? My objective is to protect the wheels and better ride comfort.

2. Should I get the car align after the new wheel/ tire installation or should I wait until I upgrade the shocks and coils. There is going to be a few months before the new shocks are installed.

3.If I want to lower the car about 1.5 inch and get a little better handling, should I get the 540 sports package set up or go aftermarket.
