I'm assuming that you're M3 had 225/45/17. I think this was the standard size for 95s and the front size for later M3s with the staggered setup.

The 18s are about 3.0 taller than the 17s. This could account for the difference. Also, the 18" wheels and tires may weigh more than your factory 17s.
