In Reply to: Question for tire rack guys about tire chains and posted by E46 328i (more) VDPHB on June 16, 2000 at 10:24:47:

: Hey guys,

: I have a 2000 328i w/ sport package. The owner's manual specifically states that I CANNOT use tire chains with the 225/45-17s that came with the car. Now it says that size 205/55-16 tires will accept chains. My question is this...does the factory sport suspension lower the vehicle to the point where I need to worry about clearance? The reason why I'm asking is that the 16 inch tire size are the std. factory size that come on non-sport suspension equipped 328s. If you can be of any assistance that would be great. In case you're wondering, I live in Southern California and go skiing in the winter, but snow tires aren't really an option because I live at the beach and have to drive at least 1 hour to get to snow, so I'd like to mount 16 inch rims w/ all seasons and be able to put chains on the tires when required.

: By the way....which High Performance All Season tires would you recommend? G-Force KDWS, SP5000s, Pilot XGTH4s, MXV4s, AVS dB, RE930 or 940,Turanza Revos, P6000 Sport Veloces, or Eagle RS-As. Just to give you an idea, in So. Cal, I'd have these tires mounted from January through April and would like the best "blend" (if there is such thing) of dry, wet, and snow traction. I know it's a tough call, but any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

: Vu
