Strength of lightweight wheels? - BBS RK vs. RK II (archive)

Hi Tire Rack team.

How much concern should I have about cast lightweight rims like the BBS RK in 18" for a 1997 BMW 540iA? I live in Atlanta (recently noted in USA Today as Best Roads in the country), but I do run into the occasional pothole and have a Dinan suspension.

Apart from the looks, how much better off am I with the BBS RK II than the RK lightweight? Are they worth the extra cost & does this extra cost result in a stronger rim? Or would you recommend a forged rim altogether? I'm considering the RE730's as tires all around in 245/40-18.

Many thanks.

Regards, Mark
