The factory tires on a 318ti are 185/65R15(24.5 overall diameter) or 205/60R15 (24.7 overall diameter). The 215/45R17 have a 24.6 overall diameter and the 235/40R17 have a 24.4 overall diameter. We have sold wheels and tires for several hundred TIs over the past few years. We have not found a case where you could bolt on larger that 215/45R17 without rubbing unless you roll the rear fender lip or the car has more negative camber dialed in than normal. You can make them work fairly easily but it is not a direct bolt on application.

This is not meant to argue with Mathew only to try to help inform you of possible complications you might experience and to give you accurate information to make your decission with.

Mathew is correct about Bavarian Auto. They do know a lot about BMWs and are a great company to deal with. (I feel the same way about The Tire Rack) I have used them for personal non-tire and wheel purchases. In this case, (the fitment of wheels and tires on 318tis) their experience has been different than ours.
