I'm interested to know where BMW recommended putting a 225/50/17 tire on the new E46? They suggest and offer a 205/50/17 on the E46 330i and in the sport package a 225/45/17 front and 245/40/17 rear. Those are the correct rolling diameters. I doubt if BMW would offer a size that would throw off their car's on board computers.
