Tire Rack - Yokohama tires for my 1999 3 series? (archive)

I just puchased a 99 323I with sport package. I thought the tires had about 5K left on them but was informed by my BMW dealer when getting oil change that they were shot. Looks like the original owner over inflated them as the center portion of the tires are worn out. They currently had Bridgestone ER30 tires that I understand are touring tires.

I have only had the car for about 2 weeks but the car seems to handle great even with the worn tires. A friend at work is using Yokohama AVS Sport tires on his M3 and swears by them. I was wondering how they would compare to the OEM tires or other similar alternatives (any other recommendations?) Here is my priorities: these will be every day tires, love the back roads, will not go anywhere near a track, bought the car for general fun and performance, want something that grips the road --- the reason I bought the BMW!!

1) Dry weather handling / traction / cornering, etc
2) Don't want loud ride
3) Don't want real harsh ride
4) Good performance in rain - no hydroplaning, etc
5) Decent wear - 25 to 30K miles

What do you think?

Thanks in advance!
