There is no need to do so. It will do nothing to give you that type of look, plus it will give you more susceptability to vibration & clearance issues. If you want to change the look, do it properly by changing your wheels.

I'm getting a set of the factory 17x8 sport wheels for the E46 and I like the "beefy" look of a 17x8.5" rim thats being sold by most tuners.

Can I put a spacer in to stick my 17x8 wheels out a little bit more? What are the adverse effects of doing this?

How much do these go for and are there different brands? I would like the best version if there is a difference. And if tirerack doesnt sell spacers, can you tell me what the effects of making my 17x8 wheels stick out a bit more is ?
