Don't see max tire widths for given rim on website (archive)

It might be helpful to have guidelines for the widest tire that is guaranteed to fit on a given-width wheel.

For example, my new E46 comes with 17" x 7" alloys with 205/50-17 all-seasons, but I believe 225/45-17s should work on the same rims w/o a problem. Don't know about 235 or 245 section widths....

Likewise, the 330Ci w/sport pkg. comes with 245/40-17 on 8.5"-wide wheels in the rear. That width should be able to accept 255 or 265 mm tires, shouldn't it?

Note, I'm not suggesting people buy the wrong fitment. (Stick with the Plus Sizing approach.) But Plus Zero is attractive only if we know wider/lower-profile tires will actually fit on a given-diameter set of rims.
