Correct offset (20mm). Correct bolt pattern (5x120). Different hub size (74mm for E39 540i; 72.56mm for 525i). You will need a hub reducing ring in order to prevent vibration. I believe this is available from Tire Rack for $3.00 ea. -- Part number A670.

I thought that E39 540i's came with at least a 16" wheel.
