I've got an E46 Ci, what tires for 18x8 front (archive)

I'm looking to get HRE Series 540 in either 17x8 or 18x8 in the front and 17x9 or 18x9 in the rear. I was told the 17s would use 235/40 for the front and 265/40 for the rear by the sales guy at ACZ Custom Wheels. Is this correct? I thought I might go with 18s but I don't know what size tires to get.
