Plus sizing and lowering questions (archive)

Sometime in the near future I plan to do a complete wheel/tire, brake and suspension upgrade on my 93 325is.

I'm trying to break it down into stages and am thinking of doing brakes and 17in wheels with 225 45/17 or 235 40/17 tires first.

Without lowering the car, will the bigger wheels look alright? Will they change the ground clearence? I realize plus sizing is not supposed to really change the overall wheel/tire diameter, but somehow my mind just can't believe that...

For when I lower the car, I'm concerned because I've read posts where people are saying that they are getting uneven tire wear and are getting very rapid tire wear on 17 tires with a lowered suspension. Can this be avoided? Is it worth the money to include new camber plates when I lower the car? Is there something else I can do to extend tread life?

I commute about 100 miles per day plus my weekend driving(anywhere from 20 to 150 miles depending), and the idea of having to get new tires every year is causing me great distress... Is this just a normal part of having a lowered sports car?

Any advise/information is appreciated! Thanks!
