85-318i proper inflation pressure - Fstone SH30s ? (archive)

Just got a set of Firestone Firehawk SH30's for my 85 318i (size P195/60HR14) from Tire Rack. When i use 30 pounds in all four tires (which is about on spec from the door sticker in the car), the car feels a bit "soft" in the corners, like it wants to slide more and roll more than im use to. Old tires (Cooper Lifeline II's) were not the right size but felt more stable in hard corners. Of course with the Coopers, the general ride quality suffered a whole lot, and i had to horse her around more.

So, more air, less air or what would you suggest for the SH30s ? I normally have a 60 pound bag of sand in the boot too.

Thanks for your help. BTW this is the second set of tires i got from Tire Rack (winter tires last fall), and the service and help from Tire Rack is great. Thanks for treating me well.
