Changing tires instead of wheels??? (archive)

Is it just good enough to change the tires on the X5 4.4i sport package from 255/50R-19 front, 285/45R-19 rear to the 255/55R-19 all season tires. These are the same 18" that come with the X5 3.0i sport package and are good for winter.
Or do I need to change and get 18" wheels and tires for my 4.4i
