Do tire cradles work to stop flat spots? (more) (archive)

I seem to have cupped Michelin Pilot MXX3s and am getting frustrated trying to solve the problem. A wheel specialist measured the rim and found it to be within 5/1000ths from true, but the tires were 40/1000ths off.

They are on a '95 M3 with 21,000 miles. I don't think the suspension is the cause, and am beginning to suspect flat spots on the tires. I don't think a $250 tire should do this.

The car is only driven a few times per month - could this cause flat spots? Do those "tire cradles" work?

Doug
