In my research for winter tires for my '97 M3, I found lots of good things about this tire. Many people quoted a Porche winter tire shootout in which the Michelin Pilot Alpin was rated in the top three out of forty they tested. They said the Michelin was the best deep snow tire. The other two were the Pirelli 210 Asymetrico (best all around) and the Dunlop Winter Sport M2 (best for cold/wet pavement).

I ordered new wheels and tires from Aaron at the tirerack.com. I would have ordered the Alpins but they were out of my size--225/45 HR 17.

Check out some of my posts below and you'll find a longer version of my search.

Hope this helps.
